伊坂幸太郎『ラッシュライフ』（新潮文庫）
著者の2作目。文庫化されていたので早速手に取った。やっぱり面白い。読む悦びに満ち満ちている。
形式としては前作に続いて今回も本格寄りのミステリだ。けれども、これを推理小説にカテゴライズするのはやっぱり難しい。十分に論理的だし、仕掛けは巧緻だ。それでも、この文体と発想はジャンル小説におさまりきるものではない。
群像劇。その趣向自体は特に珍しいものではない。ただ、読み進むうちに明らかになっていく構成の妙は、ミステリ作家としてのセンスが光っている。これだけ複雑な構成を混乱なく読ませ、すんなり納得させる腕はかなりのものだと思う。ストーリーテリングの才も百凡のものではない。
登場するキャラクターたちの生き様は、身につまされるものだったり、目を背けたくなるものだったりすることもある。そういった人々に対する著者の目線は悲観的でも同情的でもない。あるときは優しく、あるときは厳しい。誠実というのが一番近いように思う。巧緻な構成、斬新な発想、軽妙な文体、魅力的なキャラクター…なのに、地に足着いた人間模様がしっかりと展開している。
非凡だ。決して技巧や発想だけの作家ではない。
